Implant Procedures
Dental implant procedures involve the placement of a titanium post into the alveolar bone to replace missing teeth. This process consequently allows an installation of a stable and natural-looking prosthetic tooth. The number of implants required primarily correlates with the number of missing teeth. It is a wrong approach to directly place one implant for every missing tooth; the decision must consider factors such as the condition of the patient’s bone, age, systemic health conditions, and smoking habits.
For patients with complete edentulism in the upper jaw or advanced bone resorption in the lower jaw, we prefer using the “All-on-4” technique, which uses a total of 8 implants to restore chewing function, aesthetic appearance, and speech function. If the patient’s bone structure permits the placement of more implants, or if anatomical obstacles can be addressed through sinus lifts or bone grafting, the implant treatment can be performed in a more comfortable and natural manner. All these procedures involve detailed evaluations and collaborative decision-making with the patient.
